DashRoute · last updated 3 November 2026

DashRoute is a dash cam app for iPhone made by Emrecan Öztürk, an independent developer in Istanbul, Türkiye (“we”). The short version: DashRoute has no account, no advertising and no tracking, and we never sell your data. Your videos, routes and events stay on your iPhone. To improve the app, DashRoute collects usage statistics and crash reports (Google Firebase) and records purchases (RevenueCat), tied to a random ID, never to your name or email. These never include video, audio, your precise location or route, license plates or anything you type, and you can turn usage statistics off in the app.

What stays on your iPhone

Everything DashRoute records is stored only in the app's own storage on your device: video segments, GPS routes, speed, detected events (hard braking, impacts, bumps, possible crashes), trip names and the clips or PDF reports you prepare. We never see or receive any of it. Deleting the app deletes all of it.

Permissions and what they are used for

Camera
To record the road (and, if you enable the cabin camera, the cabin). Recording happens only while the app is open on screen.
Location (while using the app)
To draw your route, match the video to the map and show speed. Location is used only while recording and stays on the device, except for the few points used to name streets and the city where each trip starts and ends (see below).
Microphone (optional)
Only if you turn on cabin audio. If you don't grant it, video is recorded without sound.
Motion sensors
To detect hard braking, impacts and bumps on the device while recording.
Notifications (optional)
To tell you when storage is low, when recording stopped, or when a protected event is about to be cleared, and occasionally for app announcements and reminders (Firebase Cloud Messaging). You can turn notifications off at any time in iOS Settings.
Photos (add only)
Only to save a clip you made to your Photos library when you ask for it.

What leaves the device

Street names

To name streets and trips, DashRoute sends a few coordinates from your route to Apple's geocoding service (the same service Apple Maps uses). Video, the full route and your events are never sent. Map tiles are provided by Apple Maps under Apple's privacy policy.

Usage statistics

DashRoute uses Google Firebase Analytics to understand how the app is used. It collects:

Crash reports

When the app crashes or catches a significant error, Google Firebase Crashlytics sends where it happened (the stack trace) and its code, device model, iOS and app version, state such as free memory and disk space, the most recent app events, and the random user ID. Video, file names, location and anything you type are never sent.

Notification token

To deliver remote notifications, Firebase Cloud Messaging gives your device a random notification token; it is used only to deliver notifications.

Purchase records

DashRoute Pro is sold through Apple's App Store as a monthly or yearly auto-renewing subscription or as a one-time lifetime purchase. Apple processes the payment; we never see your payment details. RevenueCat records the purchase for us: the random user ID, the App Store transaction details (product, price and currency, purchase, renewal and expiry dates, trial, cancellation and refund status), your App Store country, basic device and app information, the Firebase app-instance identifier so both records describe the same user, and a copy of the usage properties above (such as language, country, recording mode, permission status and counts grouped into ranges), known to us only by these random IDs.

What we never collect

How the App Store label describes this

DashRoute's App Store privacy label lists usage data (product interaction), purchases, identifiers (user ID and device ID), coarse location, crash data and other diagnostic data as “Data Linked to You”, used for analytics, and purchases and the device ID also for app functionality. They count as linked because they are tied to the random app and user IDs above, which stay the same over time; they are pseudonymous, not anonymous, and they never contain your name or email. None of this data is used for tracking or advertising.

Why we use this data

To improve the app: to see where onboarding, recording and the paywall work or fail, to find errors, to decide what to build next, to report revenue, and to handle refunds, fraud and purchase problems. We don't use it for advertising.

Who processes it

Google LLC

RevenueCat, Inc.

Apple

These providers may process data in the United States and other countries where they operate. We do not sell your data, share it with advertisers or data brokers, or use it to track you across apps and websites of other companies.

Legal basis

If you are in the EU or the UK: we process usage statistics on the basis of our legitimate interest in understanding and improving the app (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR / UK GDPR), and you can object at any time with the in-app switch; we process purchase records to perform our contract with you (Art. 6(1)(b)). In Türkiye: KVKK article 5(2)(c) (necessary for the performance of a contract) for purchase records and article 5(2)(f) (legitimate interest) for usage statistics.

How long it is kept

Google Analytics event data (including the copy exported to Google BigQuery for analysis) is kept for at most 14 months and then deleted automatically. Crashlytics crash reports are kept for 90 days. RevenueCat purchase records are kept as long as needed for accounting, tax and refund handling.

Turning statistics off

In DashRoute, open Settings → Privacy and turn off Usage statistics. From then on DashRoute sends no usage events to Google and no usage properties to RevenueCat; crash reports stop from the next app launch. Purchase records are still kept by Apple and RevenueCat, because they are needed to provide and account for your purchase. Deleting the app also stops all collection.

Sharing

A clip, route or report leaves your iPhone only when you share it yourself, through the standard iOS share sheet, Photos or Files. Before sharing you can blur license plates (Pro), and turn off the speed and location label, the route map and the cabin picture. You are responsible for what you share and for complying with local laws on recording and publishing footage.

iCloud

iCloud Backup is optional and off by default. If you turn it on in Settings, your trip records (route, events, titles) and protected clips are stored in your own iCloud account through Apple's CloudKit private database and iCloud Drive, so they can come back on your other iPhones. We cannot see or access this data; Apple's iCloud terms apply. Ordinary loop video stays on your iPhone. Turning it off stops syncing; what is already in your iCloud can be removed in iOS Settings → [your name] → iCloud.

Your rights

You can ask what data we hold, ask for it to be deleted, or object to its use by writing to info@emrecanozturk.com. Because the statistics are tied only to a random ID and not to your name or email, we often cannot tell which records are yours; we will help as far as technically possible. Turning off usage statistics in Settings works immediately. Subscriptions are managed and cancelled in your App Store account settings.

Children

DashRoute is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be published at this address with a new date.
